History:
The British car producer Morgan Motor Company has been run by three generations of the Morgan family to present, after the company was first formed in 1909. The Company was created by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan, who became the chairman in 1937 and remained as the chairman of the company until his death in 1959.
H.F.S (as Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan was commonly known) was born in Herefordshire. He went to Marlborough School but was later sent to Italy to try to recover from illness, possibly caused by malnutrition. After arriving back from Italy H.F.S attended the Crystal Palace Engineering College and then began an apprenticeship at the Great Western Railway. After the Great Western Railway H.F.S set up a sales and services motor garage. H.F.S later bought a Peugeot engine and began building a car in a workshop he was given permission to work in by a friend's father. The car was put into production with the backing of Morgan's father. After Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan died the Morgan Motor Company was taken over by his son, Peter Morgan. Peter ran the company for over forty years, giving up the reins shortly before his death.
Charles Morgan now runs the company, the grandson of the initial founder, after taking over in 2006. Morgan is based in Malvern, south west Worcestershire. The cars are hand built and are generally known as "Moggies" within the enthusiast's communities. The classic design is distinctive, and the cars are noted for their sporting performance.
